Remote
Access Service (RAS)
Verify that Remote Access Service (RAS) is installed in your computer
Go to the Control Panel and double-click the Network icon.
Select the Services tab and make sure Remote Access Service (RAS)
is there.
If
it's not there, click on ADD. From the list of services choose Remote
Access Service (RAS); you will be prompted to select your modem
to set up the service, select your modem and click OK.
Now you should be back in the Network Configurations window
TCP/IP PROTOCOL
Verify that the TCP/IP Protocol is installed
Go to Network Configurations, select Protocols and make sure the
TCP/IP Protocol is there.
If it's not there, click on ADD. From the list of protocols choose
TCP/IP and click OK.
Now you should be back in the Network Configurations window.
Now that the TCP/IP Protocol is installed, select it and click the
Properties.
In the IP Address tab select:
*NOTE: If you don't have a LAN adapter, these options will not be
available.
- HostName: yourusername@icepr.com
- Domain: icepr.com
In the DNS Server Search Order, click the ADD button and enter the
following, one by one:
- 196.12.160.1
- 196.12.160.5
Click OK to go back to the Network Configurations window. Click
OK and you will be prompted to restart your computer; then click
on Yes.
Dial Up Connection
Once your computer starts up again you need to create a Dial-Up
Connection:
Go to MyComputer icon fromyour Desktop and double-click the Dial-Up
Networking.
Enter a name for the connection (we recommend ICENetworks) and click
Next.
In phone number, enter ICENetworks access phone number along with
the area code 787.
*NOTE: If your phone line has call-waiting,
add a *70, (star seven zero comma) before the phone number you are
going to be accessing.This will dissable call-waiting, otherwise
you will get disconnected from the Internet everytime a second call
comes in.
Click Next when ready and then click on Finished.
In the Dial-up Networking box, click MORE and choose Edit Entry
And Modem Properties.
Click the Server tab. The Dial-up Server Type should have: PPP:
WindowsNT, Windows 95 Plus!,Internet
Under Network Protocols, make sure that ONLY the TCP/IP is checked.
From the Server tab, click the TCP/IP Settings button. Make sure
that the following options are selected: Server Assigned IP Address
and Server Assigned Name Server Address
The following options should also be checked: Use IP Header Compression
and Use Default Gateway on Remote Server
Click the Security tab and make sure you have checked the first
option: Accept any authentication, including clear text.
Click OK when ready and you should be back in the Dial-up Networking
box.
Click MORE and choose Add Shortcut Entry to make a shortcut on your
Desktop.
Now click Close and you are ready to dial.
Dial to ICENetworks
Double-click on the Shortcut to ICENetworks icon on your Desktop
and it will open a window where you put your username and password.
Click on Save Password if you want your password saved. *Note:It
is VERY important that both the username and password are in lower-case
letters.Also, DO NOT fill in the Domain field.
Now click on Dial to connect to ICENetworks.
Once connected, open up your favorite browser. (Netscape Navigator,
MS Internet Explorer, Mosaic, etc.) and you are ready to surf the
Web in no time!
